Highlighting three artists, based on separate continents, the “Midnight Mass” exhibition looks to explore and capture the essence and power of booming underground club scenes globally. A romanticisation of these social spaces saturated with human connection, self-expression, recklessness and flamboyancy through performance, drama, dance, and music. “Midnight Mass” celebrates our human quest to satisfy a need for pleasure while recognising how deeply spiritual and tribal these experiences can be. It also recognises the influence of these scenes on both fashion and identity, and touches on the theme that underground club culture can flourish in times of oppression, political unrest, and that the existence of these environments are acts of resistance to authority.
